Visiting the Hamel house: Fun for the whole family!
Have you heard of Hendrick Hamel? You can find out everything about this seventeenth century naval hero and the world in which he lived in the Hamel house. The Hamel house was built on Hamel's actual birthplace. The historical narrative of the naval hero from Gorcum comes to live in an exciting way.
Experience Hamel's adventures
Hamel's story begins with a look in the style room, where you can discover the place he used to live. Do you possess courage? Then do you dare set foot aboard De Sperwer (The Sparrow hawk), the very ship on which Hamel set out on his adventure? See the shipwreck which caused him to spend thirteen years in Korea!
Taking a look in Korea
Hamel gave his eyes free rein in Korea, writing down everything he experienced. Because of his journal the Netherlands and Korea first got to know each other. In the museum's Korean garden you can see what Hamel saw in this distant country. You will also be able to enjoy an exhibit of Korean artists. Be sure to come and have a look!
